π₯Ύ Hiking Adventures
Hike Peters Mountain to Clarks Ferry Trailhead
If you’re looking for a Pennsylvania hike that delivers incredible views, Appalachian Trail history, and a real sense of accomplishment, Peters Mountain to Clarks Ferry Trailhead belongs on your summer bucket list.
This Appalachian Trail section follows a scenic ridgeline overlooking the Susquehanna River and offers some of the most rewarding views I’ve experienced in Pennsylvania. The trail is rocky in sections and definitely earns its reputation as a workout, but the overlooks make every step worth it.
This hike also holds a special place in my heart because it’s where Jason surprised me with a proposal during one of our favorite outdoor adventures together. What started as a beautiful day on the trail became a memory I’ll never forget.

Visit Green Point and Kimmel Lookout
Green Point and Kimmel Lookout offer one of the best view-to-effort ratios I’ve found in Pennsylvania.
Located along the Appalachian Trail, this hike rewards visitors with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Kimmel Lookout is the kind of place that makes you stop, catch your breath, and appreciate just how beautiful Pennsylvania can be.
If you’re looking for a hike that’s challenging enough to feel rewarding without requiring an entire day, this is a fantastic option for your summer adventure list.

Explore the Appalachian Trail from PA 183 to Route 501
One of the things I love most about hiking in Pennsylvania is that there is always another Appalachian Trail section waiting to be explored.
The PA 183 to Route 501 section offers classic Pennsylvania ridge walking, beautiful forest scenery, and a chance to experience a small piece of the famous trail that stretches from Georgia to Maine.
Whether you’re working toward completing larger sections of the Appalachian Trail or simply looking for a memorable day hike, this stretch is a great way to experience one of Pennsylvania’s most iconic outdoor destinations.

π² State Parks to Add to Your Pennsylvania Summer Bucket List
Explore Ricketts Glen State Park

If you’ve never visited Ricketts Glen State Park, summer is the perfect time to change that.
Known for its breathtaking Falls Trail, Ricketts Glen features 22 named waterfalls and some of the most beautiful scenery in Pennsylvania. It’s one of those places that feels almost magical, with waterfalls around nearly every bend in the trail.
Whether you’re hiking the full Falls Trail or simply enjoying the scenery, Ricketts Glen deserves a spot on every Pennsylvania summer bucket list.

Spend a Day at Swatara State Park

Swatara State Park is one of my favorite local escapes and proof that you don’t have to drive across the state to find adventure.
The park offers hiking trails, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, access to the Appalachian Trail, and the historic Waterville Bridge. Every visit seems to reveal something new, which is one of the reasons I keep coming back.
If you’re looking for a summer adventure close to Central Pennsylvania, Swatara is an easy addition to your bucket list.

Kayak Memorial Lake State Park

Sometimes the best summer adventures are also the simplest.
Located near Hershey and Lebanon, Memorial Lake State Park is one of my favorite places for a relaxing day on the water. The lake is perfect for kayaking, and visitors can even rent kayaks and canoes during the season if they don’t have their own equipment.
Unlike some of Pennsylvania’s larger and busier lakes, Memorial Lake has a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and spend a few hours outdoors.
If you’re looking for a low-stress summer adventure that doesn’t require a full day of hiking, grab a paddle and spend an afternoon exploring Memorial Lake.
π¦ Waterfall Adventures
Hike the Falls Trail at Ricketts Glen
If you’ve never completed the Falls Trail at Ricketts Glen, put it at the top of your summer bucket list.
The trail passes 22 named waterfalls and offers one of the most memorable hiking experiences in Pennsylvania. Be prepared for stairs, rocky sections, and plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
This is one Pennsylvania adventure I think every outdoor enthusiast should experience at least once.
Chase a New Pennsylvania Waterfall
One of my favorite ways to explore Pennsylvania is to simply pick a waterfall I’ve never seen before and make a day of it.
Pennsylvania is filled with hidden waterfalls tucked into state parks, forests, and hiking trails. Some require long hikes while others are just a short walk from the parking area.
Summer is the perfect time to start creating your own Pennsylvania waterfall bucket list.
Pack a Picnic and Spend the Day Outdoors
Not every summer adventure needs to be a major hike.
Find a waterfall, pack a lunch, bring your camera, and spend the day exploring somewhere new. Some of my favorite Pennsylvania memories have come from slowing down and enjoying the journey rather than rushing from destination to destination.
Sometimes the best adventure is simply discovering a place you’ve never visited before.
π² Trail & Rail Trail Adventures
Bike the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail
The Lebanon Valley Rail Trail is one of my favorite places to spend a summer morning or afternoon.
Built on a former railroad corridor, the trail offers a mostly flat and easy route through farmland, woodlands, and small Pennsylvania communities. Whether you’re walking, running, or biking, it’s a great way to spend time outdoors without tackling a difficult hike.
One of the things I love most about the trail is that you can make the experience your own. Some days call for a quick walk, while other days are perfect for a longer bike ride and a stop at a local coffee shop or restaurant along the way.

Explore a New Rail Trail

Pennsylvania is home to hundreds of miles of rail trails, making it one of the best states in the country for trail enthusiasts.
One of my summer goals is always to explore at least one trail I’ve never visited before. Whether it’s a short afternoon walk or a full-day biking adventure, rail trails offer a fantastic way to see a different side of Pennsylvania.
Challenge yourself to visit a new trail this summerβyou might just discover your next favorite outdoor destination.
Take a Car-Free Adventure Day

There’s something refreshing about spending a day outdoors without worrying about traffic, parking, or a complicated itinerary.
Choose a rail trail, greenway, or multi-use path, pack some snacks and water, and spend the day exploring at a slower pace. Bring your bike, take photos, stop for lunch, and enjoy wherever the trail takes you.
Some of the best summer memories come from the simplest adventures.

Watch the Stars at Cherry Springs State Park

Few places in Pennsylvania are as iconic as Cherry Springs State Park.
Known for having some of the darkest skies in the eastern United States, Cherry Springs is a dream destination for stargazers, photographers, and anyone who wants to experience the Milky Way without traveling across the country.
This park has been sitting on my Pennsylvania adventure bucket list for years, and summer is one of the best times to visit. There’s something magical about spending an evening under a sky full of stars and being reminded just how beautiful Pennsylvania can be.
Experience Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
Every time I see photos of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, it moves a little higher on my bucket list.
Known for its scenic overlooks and incredible bird migration viewing, Hawk Mountain offers a completely different outdoor experience than a typical Pennsylvania hike. It’s a place where you can slow down, enjoy the scenery, and appreciate the wildlife that calls Pennsylvania home.
Whether you’re a birdwatcher, photographer, or simply someone who enjoys a great view, Hawk Mountain deserves a spot on your summer adventure list.
Explore a Place You’ve Never Been Before

One of the goals I’ve set for myself this year is simple: visit at least one Pennsylvania destination I’ve never explored before.
Maybe that’s Worlds End State Park. Maybe it’s McConnells Mill. Maybe it’s a small local park you’ve driven past a hundred times without stopping.
Some of the best adventures begin with a little curiosity and a willingness to try something new. This summer, challenge yourself to explore somewhere that’s been sitting on your own bucket list.
βοΈ Simple Summer Adventures
Visit a Local Farmers Market
Visit a Local Farmers Market
One of my favorite summer traditions is spending a Saturday morning at the Palmyra Producers Only Farmers Market.
There’s something special about strolling through the market with a cup of coffee in hand, browsing fresh produce, locally baked treats, flowers, and handmade goods while supporting small Pennsylvania businesses. Every week feels a little different depending on what’s in season, which is part of the fun.
I almost always leave with more than I planned to buyβfresh vegetables for the week, homemade baked goods, or a plant that somehow follows me home. π€£
Even if you’re not near Palmyra, I encourage you to seek out a local farmers market this summer. It’s one of the easiest ways to support your community, enjoy the season, and discover some incredible local products you won’t find anywhere else.

Find a New Ice Cream Stand
Is it really summer in Pennsylvania if you haven’t stopped for ice cream?
One of my favorite summer traditions is seeking out local ice cream stands while exploring new towns and back roads. Sometimes the ice cream stand ends up being just as memorable as the destination itself.
Challenge yourself to skip the chain restaurants this summer and support a local ice cream shop instead.
Looking for inspiration? Pennsylvania’s official Scooped Ice Cream Trail highlights dozens of local creameries and ice cream shops across the Commonwealth, making it a fun way to discover new favorites while exploring the state.
Watch a Pennsylvania Sunset
Pennsylvania has no shortage of beautiful places to watch the sun go down.
Whether it’s a mountain overlook, a quiet lake, a state park, or even your own backyard, take the time to slow down and enjoy a summer sunset.
Some of my favorite photosβand favorite memoriesβhave happened when I simply stopped to appreciate the view.
Take a Spontaneous Pennsylvania Road Trip
Not every adventure needs a detailed itinerary.
Pick a direction, pack some snacks, fill up the gas tank, and see where the day takes you. Stop at the small towns, scenic overlooks, roadside attractions, and local restaurants that catch your attention along the way.
Some of the best Pennsylvania adventures happen when you leave a little room for spontaneity.
